Tutoring Services Tutor

Peer Tutoring Services Tutors work with UNCW students currently enrolled in University Studies courses (and select non-University Studies courses). Tutors assist with course content and study strategies. Tutoring occurs in the University Learning Center, located on the first floor of DePaolo Hall (DE 1056). Sessions are conducted for an hour at a time, and most sessions are one-on-one with the student (group sessions with up to three students are a possibility).

All learning tutors are required to pursue certification via our training program which has received International Tutor Program Certification status through the College Reading and Learning Association.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Upper-class standing (sophomore, junior, senior, grad student)
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher (at UNCW)
  • Completion of course(s) to be tutored with no lower than "B" grade OR documented comparable subject mastery (e.g. CLEP scores)
  • Faculty recommendation
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills
