Supplemental Instruction Leader

SI Leaders facilitate group peer study sessions for selected courses. SI Leaders are chosen based on their performance in the class, overall academic performance, faculty recommendations and ability to communicate effectively. Leaders stay abreast of the course material by attending class and meeting with the professors outside of class. They complete the homework assignments and textbook reading assignments and then conduct 3-4 study sessions each week for students currently enrolled in the course. All SI Leaders must engage in a training program, which has received International Tutor Program Certification status through the College Reading and Learning Association.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Upper-class standing (sophomore, junior, senior, grad student)
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
  • Completion of course(s) to be tutored with no lower than "B" grade OR documented comparable subject mastery (e.g. CLEP scores)
  • Faculty recommendation
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
