Policies

Student Policies

In accordance with new federal Title IX guidance and to maintain compliance with the Clery Act and North Carolina law, UNCW instituted two policies to cover student incidents: the Student Gender-Based Sexual Misconduct Policy and the Title IX Grievance Policy

The Title IX Grievance Policy addresses sexual harassment that occurs within the university's education program or activity and that occurs against a person in the United States.

The Student Gender-Based/Sexual Misconduct Policy addresses other gender-based misconduct that does not meet the jurisdictional criteria of the Title IX Grievance Policy. This can include: 

  • Sexual Misconduct (attempted or completed)  
    • Non-Consensual Sexual Intercourse 
    • Non-Consensual Sexual Contact 
    • Sexual Exploitation 
  • Dating Violence 
  • Domestic Violence 
  • Stalking 
  • Sexual Harassment  
    • Hostile Environment 
    • Quid Pro Quo Harassment 
  • Intimidation 
  • Retaliation 
  • Other civil rights offenses when the act is based on gender/sex 

These policies address situations in which both the complaining and responding parties are UNCW students. Other student polices can be found in the Code of Student Life.

Faculty/Staff Policies 

Allegations of gender-based or sexual misconduct committed by or against faculty or staff are addressed by the University's Unlawful Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy and the Title IX Grievance Policy. Additionally, the UNCW policies website is an index and repository for all official university UNCW policies, including the aforementioned policies.
