Home Chef Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What cooking equipment will I need to prepare the boxed meal kits?

Even the more complex kits only require basic cooking equipment such as a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, cook’s knife, cutting board, fry pan, larger pot to boil water, spatula, and serving dishes & utensils.

  • How long can the food stay in the meal kit shipping box before it spoils?

The food in the meal kit box is packed in insulated material with ice packs to keep ingredients cool. We recommend students open the contents at their earliest convenience but food can stay fresh in the box for up to 48 hours once the box is delivered. As a reminder, you can choose your preferred delivery date.

  • How many meals does the student get with their $120 voucher?

Here are a few ideas of what you can get with $120 to Home Chef:

  • 2 meals with a fruit basket and smoothies, 2 servings ($59.60). You can get two weekly deliveries of this option.
  • 2 meals, 6 servings ($119.40). You can get one delivery of this option.
  • 3 meals, 2 servings ($59.70). You can get two deliveries of this option.
  • 3 meals, 4 servings ($119.40). You can get one delivery of this option.
  •  Is there a delivery minimum or free shipping?

There is a weekly delivery minimum in order to receive a weekly box in the mail. You will be notified with a pop-up if you have not met the minimum. You will receive free shipping if you order a weekly box of $49 or more, otherwise shipping is an additional $10.

  • Do meals come automatically each week?

Note that Home Chef is a subscription box, so unless you pause your account, you will continue to receive Home Chef kits if you have credits in your account or if you've entered in your credit card information. To pause the account so future orders are cancelled, look under “My Account” in “Account Information.” To skip a delivery for a week (example: if you’re on vacation), click on the week you’d like to skip, then scroll to the bottom of the page and press “skip delivery.”

  • What is the typical delivery duration between the time a kit is ordered & delivered?

Customers can order for their box to be delivered Monday-Friday. Orders are locked in every Friday afternoon, and that order will be delivered the following week. So lag time is usually around a week from when they order to when it's delivered.
