President and CEO of NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators)

Division of Student Affairs Hosting Guest Lecturer: Dr. Kevin Kruger, President and CEO of NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators)

The UNCW Division of Student Affairs is happy to announce it is hosting guest lecturer Dr. Kevin Kruger, president and CEO of NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators), a professional organization for Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, on October 1, 2019. Dr. Kruger will provide a general lecture on issues related to higher education/student affairs professionals from 8:30 A.M.-9:30 A.M. with follow up Q&A from 9:30 A.M.-10:30 A.M. in the Burney Center.

The event is open to UNCW faculty, staff and students, but requires an RSVP prior to September 27th to ensure sufficient seating is set for the event.

Wayne Simmons hired as new Aquatics Coordinator for Campus Recreation

Wayne brings a strong background in aquatics programming, aquatic facility management and risk management, and holds a variety of advanced aquatic-related certifications. Wayne graduated from ECU with a B.S. in Management of Recreation Facilities & Services, and obtained an M.S. in General Kinesiology from University of Texas – Austin, and an M.S. in Recreation & Leisure Services Administration for Florida State University. Wayne's first day in the office will be September 16, 2019.

Nick Rupp hired as new Research Analyst for Assessment, Research & Planning

Mr. Nick Rupp will be joining the Student Affairs Assessment, Research and Planning Department as the Research Analyst. Nick brings to the team a deep toolkit in data science as well as a growing knowledge of our division. Nick graduated from UNCW with a BA in Economics, and an MS in Data Science. 

Katie Davidson hired as new Administrative Associate for OSLE

Ms. Katie Davidson will be joining the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement team as the Administrative Associate; her first day with us will be Wednesday, August 21.  Katie is a UNCW Alumna (’16) and currently works with Fed Ex as a Market Development Account Executive.  Prior to her current role, she served as a Community Relations Assistant at Cape Fear Community College, and she was an Intern with the College of Arts and Sciences here at UNCW.

Kelly Hook hired as new Residence Coordinator for HRL

Housing & Residence Life is excited to announce that Kelly Hook has accepted a position  as a Residence Coordinator in our office.  Kelly has worked at High Point University for the past year as a Residence Coordinator, where she ran two residence halls that housed 400 students. She completed a BA in Communication Studies from UNCG in 2016 and her Masters in Student Affairs Administration from UNCG in 2018. During her time in graduate school, she worked in housing at UNC School of the Arts with responsibility for 300 high school students.

Kelly will join our staff as the Residence Coordinator for Belk & Graham-Hewlett. She will be responsible for a newly combined residential freshman area of 600 residents and the two desks that serve them. Kelly’s first day in the office will be on Monday, August 12, 2019.

Dr. LuAnn Helms hired as Associate Director and Head of Clinical Services for Counseling Center

Dr. Helms comes to us from Utah State University, where she served as Assistant Director/Training Director, and will begin her tenure at UNCW on August 1, 2019.

Christa Faison hired as new Assistant Director for Housing Residence and Life

Housing & Residence Life is pleased to announce Christa Faison has accepted our offer for the Assistant Director of Residence Life position.  After a national search she clearly emerged as the strongest candidate.  Christa is no stranger to our division, having spent the past three years as a Residence Coordinator serving in Galloway and Seahawk Village.  Prior to being a Residence Coordinator, she served as an Assistant Residence Coordinator in the Apt/Belk community and in Residence Life at Meredith College.  As our new Assistant Director, Christa will provide direction and supervision for the Belk & Graham-Hewlett Area, Galloway Hall, and the Schwuites (Schwartz & University Suites) area.

Kenyetta Corley hired as new Coordinator for Transition Programs

Kenyetta Corley has accepted the Coordinator position in the Office of Transition Programs. In her role as the Coordinator, she will oversee the Seahawk Link programs and monthly events geared toward first-year students. Kenyetta recently served as an Assistant Residence Coordinator (ARC) in Galloway Hall serving 400+ first-year students. As an ARC, she supervised the Desk Receptionist and advised Galloway’s Area Council. In addition to her work in Housing, Kenyetta has experience in Academic Affairs through her work as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Criminology Department. Before working in higher education, Kenyetta served as a Public Safety Officer for four years. Kenyetta earned a Master of Arts in Criminology & Sociology from UNCW and a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies and Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina.  Kenyetta’s first day in the office will be Monday, July 22, 2019. 

Paul Cole hired as new Director of Assessment, Research and Planning

Paul comes to us from UNCW’s Office of Institutional Research and Planning where he worked as a Data Analytics Specialist. Paul earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and his Master of Science in Data Science from UNCW and possesses a wealth of professional knowledge in all areas of Assessment including SAS and Python data reporting analysis which will be instrumental to our division. Paul begins his new role on July 29, 2019.
