Jody Goldstein hired as the new Director of The Disability Resource Center 

The Disability Resource Center and I are excited to share that Jody Goldstein will be joining us as the new Director for the DRC on October 12, 2020. Jody comes to us from the University of Massachusetts Lowell where she is the Director of Disability Services. She is looking forward to joining our team and becoming a Seahawk. 

A special thanks to the search committee who did a great job leading a completely virtual search, Amber Resetar (chair), Jeremy Dickerson, Jim Koebel, and David Todd. A shout out to Will Wilkinson who has been the interim Director as well as the entire DRC team, Betsy, Debbie, and Gwen, who have kept the office running without skipping a beat! And finally a thank you to everyone who helped with the search process, we appreciate everyone’s commitment to the position and the DRC.


New Seahawk Statue

UNCW Increases Its Wingspan with Installation of Second Seahawk Statue

A new campus landmark that was a vision of the late Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Pat Leonard has become a reality. On Aug. 26, a second Seahawk statue, commissioned by Housing and Residence Life, was installed outside of Pelican and Sandpiper Hall, pod-style residence halls that just opened this fall. Read More

August 17 - Notice: UNCW Closely Monitoring Campus Conditions

UNC Chapel Hill, one of our sister institutions in the UNC System, has decided to modify operations for the fall semester. This decision reflects conditions on their campus. Currently, 177 Chapel Hill students are in isolation and 349 are in quarantine, both on and off campus. Read More


Dr. Nancy Blackwell hired as new Staff Psychologist/Counselor in the Counseling Center 

The staff of the Counseling Center is pleased to welcome its newest member, Dr. Nancy Blackwell, to UNCW. Dr. Blackwell received her B.A., Psychology, from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. Nancy also received her M.S.Ed., in Counseling & Counselor Education, her Ed.S., in Mental Health Counseling and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington.  She most recently worked at Counseling and Psychological Services at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Blackwell begins her new roll on August 12, 2020.

July 30 - Chancellor Sartarelli Creates Renewal and Change Accountability Committee to Advance Diversity and Inclusion

UNCW Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli has created an accountability committee to advance efforts to create a more diverse and inclusive campus.

The Chancellor’s Renewal and Change Accountability Committee will work with the university’s administration to develop strategies and propose solutions to address issues of diversity, equity, equality and inclusion. The committee held its first meeting on July 28. Read More

Dr. Brian Victor named Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

We are fortunate to be able to name Associate Vice Chancellor Brian Victor as the Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Dr. Victor has been with the university for 10 years and has been integral to the continuity of student support over the past few very difficult months, in collaboration with Dean of Students Mike Walker and other leaders in Student Affairs. Read More
