Graduate Assistant for Student Involvement (Position Filled '24-'25)

The Graduate Assistant for Student Involvement will provide support to Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), including WaveLink usage, new organization development, and RSO event planning. This position will assist in the annual re-registration process for RSOs as well as the new student organization registration process, including helping new organizations develop their constitutions, adhering to university policy, and understanding best practices. Additionally, this position will provide WaveLink training to student organization leaders, Involvement Specialists, and staff and faculty. This position will work with the Campus Activities and Involvement Center (CAIC) and Campus Life professional staff to collect and analyze programming data from WaveLink to aid in the retention and persistence of students. The Graduate Assistant will also assist in the oversight of Involvement Specialists and will provide support for CAIC and Campus Life major events alongside professional staff as needed and appropriate.

COMPENSATION: The position receives a stipend of $13,000 to be dispersed between August 2024 and May 2025 (20 hours a week).

Graduate Assistant for Campus Activities & Programs (Position Filled '24-'25)

The Graduate Assistant for Campus Activities & Programs (CAP) supports the numerous programming efforts designed to engage UNCW students in engaging social and educational opportunities. The Graduate Assistant for CAP provides leadership and supervision to the Activities team of undergraduate student employees who coordinate arts, culture, contemporary issues, late night alternative, and union programs. The Graduate Assistant will support the Coordinator for Campus Activities & Programs in calendar development, management of the operating budget, and coordination of large-scale events.

Association for Campus Entertainment 'ACE' Graduate Assistant (Position Filled '24-'25)

The Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE), an entity of the Campus Life Office, provides programming and activities that promote opportunities for educational, social, and cultural growth for students and the campus community. The Graduate Assistant for ACE provides leadership, advising, and supervision to the campus programming board. ACE plans and implements approximately 60 events through the academic year, with an operating budget of approximately $260,000. ACE consists of 10 executive board members, as well as 60 general members. The Graduate Assistant for ACE will serve as the Advisor for two to three of the five ACE Committees (Activities, Arts, Concerts, Films, and Spirit).

Leadership Development Graduate Assistant (Position Filled '24-'25) 

The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development provides and supports leadership development initiatives for registered student organizations, university department student groups, and the general study body. Initiatives include the following: Facilitation and workshop tracking for the Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Workshop Series, assisting with the CliftonStrengths Workshops and Coaching program, and serving as a small-group facilitator for the ACTIVATE New Seahawk Retreat and the ELEVATE Leadership Summit. We also supervise a team of undergraduate student employees who assist in the facilitation and execution of programs. The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development will support all facets of leadership initiatives in the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement.

Student Community Engagement Graduate Assistant (Position Filled '24-'25) 

The Graduate Assistant for Student Community Engagement provides and supports community engagement initiatives for UNCW students, which includes recurring service projects in the community, annual events, social issue education and immersive service trips. The Graduate Assistant will assist with all Seahawks that Serve programming, including the tracking of participation and co-supervision of the student employees who assist with program coordination. The GA will support the daily operation of Hawk’s Harvest Student Food Pantry, including staffing shopping hours, promoting the resource to campus, and assisting with the acquisition of donations.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with non-profit organizations in a hands-on capacity (volunteer, intern, etc.).

Graduate Assistant (Two positions available for 2024-25 academic year) 

Overview of PositionThe Disability Resource Center (DRC) is the designated office at The University of North Carolina Wilmington for the promotion of equity, access and civil rights for students with disabilities. Consistent with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) in addition to other federal, state and local civil rights laws related to disability, the DRC works diligently to provide an inclusive experience and equal opportunity at UNCW to individuals with disabilities.

Duties include coordination of tasks, projects and assisting with general office administrative responsibilities. Graduate Assistants may serve as support to both the DRC Testing Coordinator and the Campus Testing Center Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for individuals and clearly communicate office procedures.
  • Utilize a confidential electronic database.
  • Assist with tasks such as scheduling, file maintenance and office projects.
  • Engage in student interactions and meetings.
  • Assist with coordination aspects of approved accommodations such as note-taking provisions, alternate format and navigating temporary conditions.

Conduct Interventions - Work under the Direct Services Coordinator in the Health Promotion office to deliver substance use early intervention services to UNCW students referred through the university conduct system.

Transition Programs Graduate Assistant

The Office of Transition Programs provides a comprehensive array of programs designed to meet the unique needs of undergraduate students and families from orientation through graduation. Programs generate an intentional connection for the students through engaging interactions with other students, faculty, and staff. Some of the programs supported by the Office of Transition Programs are services for first-generation and foster care students, new student and family orientation, a peer mentor program for first-year students (Seahawk Links), transfer student programs, convocation, family weekend, and commencement.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Graduate Assistant for Transition Programs provides support for student leadership development, and event coordination. Some evenings and weekends will be required. The Graduate Assistant for Transition Programs reports to the Assistant Director of First Year Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, and training of Orientation Leaders and Seahawk Links.
  • Attend and present during student leader trainings, meetings, conferences, and retreats to provide personal and professional development.
  • Collect and report data related to student leadership programs.
  • Provide preparatory and day-of-event support for orientation, Convocation, Commencement, Family Weekend, and other office-wide events and programs.
  • Plan the orientation late night event in collaboration with Campus Recreation.
  • Represent the Office of Transition Programs at campus events and programs.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for Orientation Leadership Team and Seahawk Link Leadership Council.
  • Attend meetings with Transition Programs Staff.
  • Perform general administrative tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a full-time UNCW graduate student.

COMPENSATION

The position receives a stipend of $12,000 to be dispersed over 10 months and an hourly rate during the month of June. Professional development funding to attend the Southern Region Orientation Workshop with the Association of Orientation, Transition, and Retention.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT

August 2024 – June 2025. This is a 11-month position. Twenty (20) hours per week are required, including some evenings and weekends. A project-based, remote work option is available during July at an hourly rate up to 20 hours per week. This position is renewable after one year.

Graduate Assistant (Positions filled for '24-'25)

Summary

The Graduate Assistant for University Learning Center, with guidance from ULC professional staff, provides peer educator training and student leadership development, assists with outreach, and develops program coordination skills. Evenings and weekends required.

Annual Compensation

$12,000 stipend; 10-month position (20 hours per week).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with training Peer Educators, including observations/assessments and leading training workshops based on established criteria.
  • Assist with ULC outreach efforts, including participation in various promotional events and delivery of ULC presentations to classes and student groups.
  • Assist with the coordination and oversight of a ULC service, including use of campus platforms (TracCloud, Starfish) to manage student usage.
  • Assist with collecting assessment data.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for Peer Educators.

Qualifications

University Testing Services Graduate Assistants (three positions available for fall 2024-spring 2025 semesters)

University Testing Services is responsible for proctoring high stakes examinations to students of UNCW and the public. Commonly administered tests include the PRAXIS and GRE.

There are three graduate assistantships available for fall 2024. Each graduate assistant will complete online training to become certified to proctor many different types of exams. Each GA will serve as a proctor in the center; this includes assisting testers as they navigate the check in process, following standardized procedures for proctoring and ensuring test security, and assisting the Testing Services Coordinator as needed.
