A satellite launch livestream viewing event will take place Monday, Nov. 19 from 1-2 p.m. in the Fisher Student Center.

Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to attend.

UNCW professor John M. Morrison’s nanosatellite, SeaHawk-1, is ready for launch. Spaceflight, a mission management provider, anticipates launching SeaHawk-1 as part of a rideshare mission from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Kristin Pinder hired as Technology & Communication Specialist in the Office of Transition Programs

Kristin graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She also has a Master of Arts and a Master of Education from UNCW. Many of you may know Kristin from her work in Campus Life and the Career Center while she was in graduate school at UNCW. Additionally, Kristin worked at Cape Fear Community College. Kristin begins her new role on Monday, November 5, 2018.

Jessica Blasioli hired as new Associate Director for Campus Recreation

Jessica comes to us from the University of Albany where she has been the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness for the past three years. She received her Bachelor's of Science: Applied Exercise Science and her M.Ed. in Exercise Science and Sport Studies both from Springfield College in Massachusetts. Jessica will begin her new role on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. 

Alexis Dawson hired as new Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life

Alexis has been a valued member of the OSLE Team for the past year; she served first as an intern and more recently as a part-time staff member assisting in all areas of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Alexis also served as the Graduate Assistant for ACE and she graduated with her M.Ed. in Higher Education from UNCW in May 2018. Prior to coming to UNCW, Alexis attended UNC Pembroke and earned a degree in Criminology and Sociology. While at UNCP, she served as the All Greek President and she was a founding member of the Theta Phi chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha and she continues to serve her national organization as a Regional Panhellenic Liaison. Alexis will begin her new role on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. 

Grace Grindstaff hired as new Assistant Director of Informal Recreation (Campus Recreation)

Grace comes to us from the University of Texas A&M University where she has been the Coordinator of Facilities for the last 3 years. Grace graduated with her undergraduate degree from Winthrop University and her Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University – Commerce. Grace will begin her new role on Monday, August 27, 2018.

Danielle Melnick hired as new Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator (CARE)

Danielle graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA and received her Masters from the Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City.  She spent a year volunteering as a counselor/advocate at her local domestic violence agency before starting at Dickinson. Danielle went on to work at the Prevention Education and Advocacy Center at Dickinson before continuing at Columbia’s Sexual Violence Prevention Team focused on interpersonal violence prevention. Danielle will begin her new role on Thursday, August 23, 2018.

Casey McAnarney hired as new Job & Internship Specialist (Career Center)

Casey graduated Cum Laude from UNCW, and double majored in Professional Writing and Communication Studies. While earning her B.A., Casey worked as a student employee in the UNCW Mailroom, Watson College of Education Dean’s Office, Office of Student Leadership and Engagement, and The Seahawk newspaper (Editor-in-Chief). She also was the Marketing Coordinator for the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. 

Casey will work as the face and voice of the Career Center, and interact with students, employers, faculty, staff and the general public. She also will have a major role in the continued implementation of our Handshake career management platform, as well as our electronic and print media marketing efforts. Casey will begin her new role on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. 

Lacie Munn hired as new Business Operations Coordinator (Campus Life)

Lacie comes to us from PPD in Wilmington where she worked as an Operations Financial Analyst and previously worked at Credit Suisse in Raleigh as a Financial Analyst. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Marketing from East Carolina University. Lacie will begin her new role on Monday, July 30, 2018.

Charles Ozuna and Jackie Pitone hired as new Career Development Counselors (Career Center)

Charles has received his Master’s in Higher Education Administration and his Bachelors in Communications, both from Rowan University (NJ). He has worked as a Graduate Assistant in both the Office of Career Advancement and the Office of Social Justice, Inclusion & Conflict Resolution at Rowan. He also work for a year as Assistant Director of a college scholars program, a year as a success coach in NYC, a high school instructor and 3rd grade teacher in NJ, a media specialist & coach at a Boys & Girls Club, and six years as an assistant producer/editor/videographer for NY radio stations. Charles will be our liaison to the STEAM Sciences, and to the Arts, Media & Communication areas.

Jackie received her Master of Education degree in College Student Affairs Leadership from Grand Valley State University (MI), and her Bachelor degree in Human Development & Family Studies from Michigan State University.  She worked for two years as a Graduate Assistant in the Grand Valley State’s Career Center, and one year there as a Strategies for Success Instructor with their Academic Success Center.  Also at Grand Valley State, she worked a year on their Conduct Board, and one semester as a Graduate Intern with their College of Community Public Service. Other experiences include an Assistant Resident Director at UC-Berkeley, 2 years AmeriCorps at Michigan State, Intern with Highfields Family Support, Research Assistant at Michigan State, Teen After-School Center Supervisor, and a Youth Advocate. Jackie will be our liaison to the Watson College of Education, and also will work with our Certified Internship Program (CIP), and other special internship programs.

Lindsey Trione hired as new Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life (Office of Student Leadership and Engagement)

Lindsey comes to us from Texas State University where she worked as a Greek Affairs Coordinator. She advised and supervised the Interfraternity Council, Mulitcultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council, which is comprised of 31 collegiate chapters and over 2,500 students. Lindsey received her B.S. in Hospitality Administration from Boston University and her M.S. in College Student Development & Counseling from Northeastern University. Lindsey will begin her new role on Monday, July 9, 2018.

Carrie West hired as new Coordinator of Transition Programs

Carrie joins us from The University of Alabama where she served as a Graduate Assistant for First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives. She received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern University and her M.A. in Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama. In addition, she was selected the NASPA 2018 Outstanding Graduate Student in Region III. Carrie will be working with our Transfer Students and Families and will begin her new role on Monday, May 21, 2018. 

Holly Smith hired as Fitness Coordinator (Campus Recreation)

Holly comes to us from O2 Fitness in Chapel Hill where she was employed as a Level 3 Personal Trainer. She also worked as an Editorial Contributor for a fitness publication based out of New York. She received her Masters from California University of Pennsylvania and Bachelors from Elon University both in Exercise Science. Holly will begin her new role on Monday, March 12, 2018.

Mark Perez-Lopez, Ph.D. hired as Director of Counseling Center and University Testing Services

Dr. Perez-Lopez currently serves as the Associate Director of the Counseling Center at Georgia Southern University. He earned his BA in Psychology from Virginia Wesleyan, MS in Psychology from ODU, and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Perez-Lopez completed his post-doctoral training at Virginia Tech. He is a senior site visitor for the International Association of Counseling Services and for the American Psychological Association, and he maintains a private practice primarily serving the police force. Mark will begin his new role on Monday, February 19, 2018. 

Stephanie Berry hired as Reservation Coordinator for Campus Life

Stephanie has a wide breadth of knowledge and experience in event planning and student activities. She graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a masters in Organizational Leadership. Stephanie will begin her new role on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

Carolyn Rennix hired as Employer Development Coordinator

Carolyn comes to us from the Beaufort, SC Regional Chamber of Commerce as their Membership Accounting Manager. She earned her BA in Mass Communications from Winthrop University. While at Winthrop she served as the Editor-In-Chief for the school newspaper, cofounding an online women’s magazine as well as interning in the marketing department for a nearby Community College. The combination of business development, marketing and communication experience brings an exciting addition to the Career Center team! Carolyn will begin her new role on Monday, January 22, 2018. 

Nadirah Pippen hired as Associate Director for Career Development

Nadirah joins the Career Center with over seven years of experience in the Career Services office at ECU. Prior to that, she worked for nine years as a Jobs Counselor in Rocky Mount, NC. She will also begin her new role on Monday, January 22, 2018.

Teddy Howell hired as Residence Coordinator

Teddy joins us from Louisberg University where he has served as a Residence Coordinator. Prior to that, he graduated with his masters in Higher Education Administration from UNC Wilmington. During that time, he interned in Transition Programs and the Department of Educational Leadership in the College of Education. Teddy’s first day will be on Monday, January 22, 2018.

Jacob "Andrew" Hester hired as Director of Assessment, Research and Planning

Andrew comes to us from the University of Alabama where he served as the Assistant Director of Student Services and Adjunct Instructor, Honors College. Andrew earned his Bachelors of Science in Finance and his Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Alabama. He is also ABD for his Ph.D. in Philosophy, Public Policy and Administration (Political Science) from the University of Alabama. Andrew will begin his new role on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

Caitlin Grindall hired as Residence Coordinator (Galloway Hall)

Caitlin graduated with her Masters in College Counseling at NC State University and served as a graduate Residence Director for the past three years. She also interned as a Counselor in the Health and Wellness Center at William Peace University. Caitlin will begin her new role on Friday, January 5, 2018.

Titus Adeleke hired as Assistant Dean of Students (Student Conduct)

Titus completed his B.A. in Communication Studies at UNCW, a M.S. in College Student Development at Oklahoma State University where he has worked the past four years as a Residence Life Coordinator. Titus will begin in the Office of the Dean of Students on Monday, November 27, 2017.

Daniel Turner hired as Sports Club Coordinator (Competitive Sports)

Daniel comes to us from the University of Mary Washington where he recently graduated with his Master’s Degree and before that Virginia Tech where he completed his undergraduate degree. Daniel will being in Campus Recreation on Monday, December 4, 2017.
