A Study Abroad Program for UNCW First-Year Spring Admit Students

Spend your first semester abroad in Maynooth, Ireland! As a First-Year Spring Admit (FYSA) student at UNCW, you have the unique opportunity to earn academic credits during the fall semester abroad that will count toward your graduation requirements.

Not only that, but you'll also make friends with fellow FYSA Seahawks, discover a new culture, and explore the Ireland and beyond!

  • Location: Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland
  • Program Dates: September 15, 2026*- December 19, 2026
  • Online Orientation Dates: TBD (links to join will be emailed to you prior to these online orientation sessions)

*Leave U.S. September 14 to arrive in Ireland by mid-morning of September 15. Students will fly into Dublin Airport and transportation to the university will be provided. 

**Students can depart to return home anytime starting December 20. 

**Students must submit an application by June 15. Applications can be started here once the student has confirmed their enrollment to UNCW's Office of Admissions. Please be sure to use your UNCW email and password.

**Enrollment for this program will be on a first-come, first-served basis.The FYSA @ Maynooth program has the capacity to accept 30 students. Therefore, we will accept the first 30 applicants with completed applications. For more details on the program cost, inclusions, and payment schedules, go to the Costs & Inclusions section.

Study abroad in Ireland this fall with UNCW!

The University


Maynooth University is a vibrant institution with more than 8,800 students. The university is located on a pleasant campus 12 miles west of Dublin. The campus possesses some of the finest state-of-the-art research and academic facilities in Ireland.

The spacious campus is laid out on extensive grounds adjacent to a beautiful rural park on one side and within easy walking distance of the historic town of Maynooth. The campus is divided between an older complex of fine nineteenth-century buildings and a modern complex of teaching, research, and support facilities, as well as state-of-the-art student residences and sports facilities.

The Surrounding Area


Maynooth is 35 minutes from downtown Dublin, the capital and largest city in Ireland. Trains run regularly to Dublin from Maynooth Station, which is within walking distance of campus.

The university town combines the historical legacy of its medieval origins with a present-day location on the fringes of Dublin. Maynooth is a charming and busy town with many shops, cafes, and general services while preserving much of its rural ambiance with the surrounding peaceful countryside. 

Enrollment Process

Enrollment for this program will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The FYSA @ Maynooth program has the capacity to accept 30 students. Students will be able to enroll in this program once their UNCW Spring-Admit enrollment has been confirmed with the Office of Admissions. Confirmed students can then access the UNCW application checklist for the FYSA @ Maynooth program.
