As part of the Randall Library Expansion and Renovation Project, the campus commons pond is being converted into a state permitted storm water structure. The work begins May 15 and is expected to be complete by August 10.
Certified wildlife specialists are relocating the various pond wildlife to other campus ponds. The southern sidewalks around the ponds and the southern parking lots at Randall Library and Congdon Hall are closed during this time. Safety flaggers will be present at pedestrian-vehicular intersections. Directional signage will be visible around the pond and sidewalks to help with navigation.
Randall Library is operational during the construction. For hours of operation, visit https://library.uncw.edu/hours.

As part of the university’s ongoing master planning process, King Hall is scheduled for renovation, requiring the entire building to be vacated. The work will begin at the end of the spring 2023 semester, following commencement. The yearlong project will focus on HVAC systems and code requirements and include modifications to the first floor for the Department of Film Studies and reconfiguration of the second floor to accommodate Honors College and other academic units.
All film studies and pre-engineering faculty and staff offices currently located in King Hall will be relocated to the R-Lot Modular units on Chancellor's Walk for the duration of the renovation. Courses normally scheduled for King Hall will be relocated to appropriate spaces across campus. Morton Hall and the R-Lot Modulars are receiving upgrades to meet the needs of many of the displaced courses. The Office of the Registrar is aware of these changes. Additional messaging regarding the renovation will be shared with campus as necessary. Contact the Office of Facilities with questions or concerns.

The City of Wilmington’s project to improve drainage in the Clear Run area will require traffic to detour during construction. Students/employees who commute to and from class/campus should use Oriole and Racine Drives instead of College Acres Drive for the foreseeable future. This includes students/employees who drive, walk, or bike. Emergency vehicles and mail delivery will be able to get through the area to provide services. Please call 910.343.4777 with questions about the project.

To further enhance UNCW’s outdoor living areas, the university plans to build new recreation fields and associated facilities near the Student Housing Village and The Shore Dining Hall. Students, faculty and staff should be prepared for construction impacts in the area from mid-May 2022 through summer 2023.
During Phase 1 of the project, construction fencing will be installed and pedestrian access to sidewalks in the area will be limited. Hawk Walk is not expected to close during the project. All adjacent buildings will maintain their accessible paths of travel to building entrances.

Parking lot adjustments and temporary road closures to accommodate the expansion and renovation of Randall Library and crosswalk safety enhancements on Randall Drive are slated to begin this week. The Office of Facilities and the Office of Parking and Transportation are sharing advance information about these plans to help the campus community prepare for any inconveniences that may result from the university’s progress on these important efforts. Facilities and parking will share further adjustments as needed as the projects progress.
Parking Lot Adjustments: Beginning May 20, the faculty/staff parking lot at the end of Kenan Hall Drive, between Randall Library and King Hall, along with parking spaces on the northside of Kenan Hall Drive, will be closed to accommodate large trucks completing construction deliveries. The trucks will use the Randall Drive-College Road entrance to campus. Please be prepared for periodic traffic congestion in this area as well as along Wagoner Drive in front of Kenan Auditorium during the Randall Library project.
The closure is connected to the planned expansion and renovation of Randall Library. This complex project will periodically affect several parking areas around the library between now and completion (expected fall 2024). Please monitor campus inboxes for more information from facilities and parking as the project progresses.
Thank you for your attention and for exercising patience and caution. While these efforts may cause temporary inconvenience, they are part of a long-term plan to ensure UNCW has the facilities in place to continue educating Seahawks far into the future.
