Microsoft Copilot with Commercial Data Protection

Microsoft Copilot AI Chat is Now Available for UNCW!

You can now leverage the power and convenience of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Microsoft Copilot with Commercial Data Protection. Developed in partnership with OpenAI, Copilot uses advanced language models like GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 to deliver unparalleled assistance.

With Commercial Data Protection, your prompts and responses are not stored or utilized for training the underlying large language models inherent to AI. 

Use Copilot With Commercial Data Protection to: 

  • Summarize documents & websites 
  • Craft professional content 
  • Conduct research for papers and assignments 
  • Assist in writing code in several programming languages 
  • Create images for social media, articles, email, etc.

How Do I Access Copilot?

To access Copilot AI Chat, visit copilot.microsoft.com in any browser. Then, sign in with your UNCW credentials to access the enterprise version. It is also integrated into Microsoft Edge through the browser’s sidebar!

How Do I Know I'm Using the Version With Data Protection?

There are two ways to know if you are using Copilot's commercial data protection version:

  1. A green indicator that says "protected" is in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. The green text above the chatbox reads, "Your personal and company data are protected in this chat."
If you see these two indicators, then you are using the commercial data protection version.

Does This Mean I Will Have AI in My Office Applications?

Microsoft Copilot AI Chat differs from Copilot for Microsoft 365, which adds AI features to Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Copilot for Microsoft 365 is currently not licensed for use at UNCW.

Who is Microsoft Copilot Available to?

Copilot is available to UNCW students, faculty and staff.
