We're excited to share that a new virtual desktop experience is here! As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance campus technology, Apporto will replace Horizon at the end of the spring semester. Try it today and experience seamless access to your campus apps, work together in real time and enjoy even more benefits than ever before.

Say Hello to Apporto, Your New Virtual Desktop

Whether you are on or off campus, using a PC, Mac or mobile device, you can access UNCW software through Horizon.

This is a secure, private cloud for the UNCW campus community. Horizon includes updated versions of the most commonly used applications in both stand-alone and desktop form.

Students, faculty and staff can enjoy these features from a Web browser, or they may download the Horizon client (recommended) and can also download the app on their mobile devices. The Horizon client has been installed in computer labs around campus and is available for faculty and staff to download in the Software Center.

Quick Facts about Horizon

  • VPN is not necessary to use Horizon.
  • You may view your Remote Desktop on Horizon.
  • You can connect to Banner, SSRS Reporting, Chrome River and other services and use the OCI Google Chrome Browser to access these services.
  • You can access virtual UNCW desktops.
  • You can access UNCW software and applications:
    • ARC
    • EMS
    • Microsoft Excel, Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Word
    • Web Browsers: Firefox, IE, Chrome
    • Maple
    • KaleidaGraph
    • MATLab
    • And more!
