UNCW Account & Password

Your UNCW account and password help you access UNCW applications and computers. Use our Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) Portal to easily reset your password. Learn about your UNCW password below.

First-Time Logins & Password Changes

Our Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) Portal allows users to easily reset their password, so you can always get into your account, even if you have forgotten your password.

*Please note: There is currently a 15-minute delay before you can sign into UNCW systems with a new password.

Change My Password

In the "User ID" field, please enter your UNCW email (e.g., abc1234@uncw.edu). Please know it may take up to 15 minutes before your new password becomes active across all systems.

Account Setup

Log in with your UNCW email (e.g., abc1234@uncw.edu) and password, found either on your acceptance letter (for students) or in a welcome email (faculty, staff and guests) from ITS.

Password Guidelines

  • Do not give your password to anyone.
  • Passwords should be at least 8 characters in length.
  • Use a strong password - one that includes a combination of upper case, lower case, alphanumeric and special characters. See UNCW Security Policy 7.100.02.
  • Do not use easy-to-guess words or personal information (such as your name, birthday, driver's license number, etc.)
  • Change your password regularly.
    • UNCW requires you change your domain password every 90 days
  • Don't repeat passwords.
  • Never write down a password.

Account Basics

Student Accounts

  • Accounts are created upon acceptance to UNCW.
  • Username is your first, middle and last initial followed by four random digits.
  • Email address is your username@uncw.edu (i.e., abc1234@uncw.edu)

Faculty & Staff Accounts

  • Username is your last name followed by your first initial (or a similar format, if your particular username is already in use).
  • Email address is your username@uncw.edu.

Account Deactivation

Student Accounts

Per information outlined in the User Accounts and Authorized Access policy and the UNCW Code of Student Life, any student not registered for the current term or any future term is deemed to have an inactive relationship with UNCW. These accounts and mail boxes are subject to deactivation.

Student accounts will be deactivated after the drop/add period the fall or spring semester following separation from UNCW. Separation is defined as graduation, transfer, absence for more than one term, etc. Students who have separated from the university are not able keep their "uncw.edu" email account.

Faculty / Staff Accounts:

Faculty and staff accounts will be deleted on the day of separation from UNCW. If a faculty or staff member is retiring, they are entitled to keep their email account unless they choose to not do so. Please see the User Accounts and Authorized Access policy for additional information.
