When transferring to another institution, it is important to understand that your financial aid award is not transferable to other schools; each institution may award a student different amounts and types of aid.
Financial Aid Tips for Transfers Students
- Applying/FAFSA: Your financial aid doesn’t “transfer” from one school to the next. Add UNCW to your FAFSA as soon as you consider applying to be admitted to UNCW.
- Scholarships: Complete the University Scholarship Application as soon as you’re admitted to UNCW. It is open December 1 with a priority date of March 1 for each following academic year.
- Aid Differences: Federal loans and Pell grants may be the only funds that are the same from school to school. State and institutional funding calculations will likely differ.
- Living Off Campus: Transfer students often live off campus. If receiving financial aid and living off campus, your e-bill charges (e.g., tuition and mandatory fees) will be paid first. Any funding that exceeds those charges will be refunded to you by the Student Accounts and Cashier Services Office the first week of class.
