Our co-curricular programming aims to promote and enrich the awareness and understanding of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander cultures and histories by providing institutional resources, educational support, and community outreach activities to students, faculty, and staff.
Program 1. Discussion: Over a Cup of Tea
This program discusses issues concerning Asians and Pacific Islanders through inviting faculty members, scholars, and guest presenters. Topics range from racial justice, identity, mental health to current and historical events. Also, through this program, frequent roundtable discussions on "Who are Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders?” will be carried out.
Program 2. Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
This is a month-long celebration acknowledging the history, cultures, and contributions of AAPIs in the U.S. Through this program, cultural events, such as Lunar New Year, Asian and Pacific Islander Film Series, and "Asian and Pacific Islander Cultures" featuring activities such as cooking demonstrations, ethnic music traditions and/or calligraphy.
Program 3. Retracing Our Roots
This program offers activities aimed at rediscovering Asian and Pacific Islander ethnic identities, providing opportunities to meet peers at the university, and developing individual potentials.
Program 4. Asian Language Learning Program
This program is available to those interested in brushing up on native speaking skills, or perhaps to simply learn basic survival phrases in a particular Asian language.
Program 5. Peer Support
This program offers free mentoring, advice, and support for Asian and Pacific Islander students needing guidance with cultural adjustment, campus life, and schoolwork through senior students volunteering.
Program 6. Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering services include teaching an Asian language class, serving as an English conversation partner, contributing a cultural performance at special events, and helping with setup/cleanup/general assistance during AHCC events.
