To positively affect the recruitment, retention and academic achievement of black students at UNCW, and contribute to the preparation of all UNCW students to excel in an increasingly diverse world.
Our Mission
The Upperman African American Cultural Center supports the UNC System policy requiring each all students are invited, included, and treated equally, and UNCW's mission to offer powerful academic experiences through the successful execution of three primary goals:
Support
Develop and maintain programs and resources that support belonging, academic excellence, and well-being for students at UNCW.
Advocacy
Maintain a level of expertise about the Black student experience that affirmatively informs the policies, practices and programs of UNCW administration, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
Education
Develop and present programs that celebrate the cultural identity of African Americans and other people of the African Diaspora.
