Experience the Upperman African American Cultural Center.
To positively affect the recruitment, retention and academic achievement of black students at UNCW, and contribute to the preparation of all UNCW students to excel in an increasingly diverse world.
The Upperman African American Cultural Center supports UNCW's commitment to equality inclusion, and its mission to offer "powerful academic experiences" through the successful execution of three primary goals:
Develop and maintain programs and resources that support belonging, academic excellence, and well-being for Black students at UNCW.
Maintain a level of expertise about the Black student experience that affirmatively informs the policies, practices and programs of UNCW administration, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
Develop and present programs that celebrate the cultural identity of African Americans and other people of the African Diaspora.
