Upward Bound Math & Science

Upward Bound Math & Science

Upward Bound Math & Science program is a TRIO program fully funded annually by the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO programs support higher education for all students without regard to race, gender, national origin or disability.

How it Works

UNCW staff will serve with these students at their high schools every week, Monday through Thursday, with tutoring and college preparatory workshops. 

Participating students will visit campus twice a month at our “Saturday Academy” for various college-related programming, including:

  • ACT and SAT preparation classes
  • College admissions and financial aid workshops 

Field trips to visit other colleges and universities are also part of the program.

Seahawk Upward Bound Math and Science is a federally funded program through TRIO programs.

Eligibility Requirements

Students must meet the following requirements:

  • Attend North Brunswick High School or a New Hanover County high school
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident
  • Have a household income that meets low-income guidelines established annually by the federal government
  • Be a potential first-generation college graduate; students whose parent(s)/guardian(s) did not graduate from a four-year college or university
  • Want to go to college after high school graduation

How to Apply

Eligible students who are interested can get an application from their school's front office or via email at UpwardBoundMS@uncw.edu. Applications can be scanned and emailed to UpwardBoundMS@uncw.edu. We are currently serving students enrolled in North Brunswick High School and all New Hanover County high schools.
