Sea Safari

Junior Programs Ages 4-8

Send your young adventurers on an exciting Sea Safari where they will discover the "big game" of our local marine environment.

Keep your eyes peeled while on a coastal safari to spot the wild animals that call our habitats home and learn all about the field of vertebrate zoology. Use scientific observation tools including binoculars, underwater viewers, and microscopes. Conduct anatomy investigations to learn about specialized adaptations that help local species survive challenging environments.

What Will Students Explore and Discover?

  • Study physiological differences of marine vertebrate organisms and complete a simulated dissection.
  • Discover how scientists track and identify animals including birds, turtles and marine mammals and learn the different ways they locomote.
  • Learn how to use scientific tools in the field, lab and at UNCW Center for Marine Science.
  • Experience a safe, shallow water “boat float” through the marsh.
  • Explore the beach, marsh and fouling station while conducting fun hands-on science investigations.
