Are you looking to develop your marine science communication skills? MarineQuest internships provide opportunities to gain real-world experience in informal education, build your resume, and make waves.

Internships

MarineQuest offers on-site internships in the Fall and Spring semesters. We are a pre-approved internship host site for UNCW Environmental Science, Biology & Marine Biology, and Earth & Ocean Sciences. We are willing to support credit-seeking interns from other institutions on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that MarineQuest internships are currently unpaid and we unable to provide housing.

Types of Internships

Environmental Education Intern

Citizen Science Intern

Practice curriculum development and creating hands-on inquiry-based lessons.
Training in how to align lessons to education standards/ literacy principles (to serve school children).
Training in how to translate sophisticated science into material that kids can understand.
Practice in lesson delivery in the lab, at schools, in the field, and virtually.
Practice lesson evaluation and evaluation of delivery.
Training in the use of laboratory and field equipment.
Earn 1-3 credit hours

Preference is given to students who can commit to multiple semesters.
Learn field-based data collection and analysis techniques.
Practice creating hands-on inquiry-based outreach activities.
Training in how to translate sophisticated science into material that community members can understand.
Practice in lesson delivery in the lab, at outreach events, in the field, and virtually.
Practice lesson evaluation and evaluation of delivery.
Training in the use of laboratory and field equipment.
Earn 1-2 credit hours.
