Living independent of formalized supervision, learning how to interpret a lease or experiencing the greater Wilmington community are all advantages to off campus living. There are also things about living off campus that students must be aware of, such as personal safety.

Most neighborhoods near campus are generally considered safe. However, there are no off campus Resident Assistants and UNCW police do not patrol off campus. Students who elect to live off campus should be aware of their surroundings and learn how to be vigilant when it comes to protecting themselves and their property.

The resources below are available to you should you be impacted by a crime off campus. Be sure to contact the Assistant Dean by email if you think the university should be aware of safety concerns off campus.

The Wilmington Police Department has a Police to Citizen (P2C) website, where individuals can search for crime reports by address. We encourage parents/families and students to use this resource when identifying possible off-campus housing locations to check the safety of the area. Individuals review timely police reports related to accidents, arrests, and incidents that are handled by the Wilmington Police Department.

3. Enter the address of the off-campus housing location you are interested in and specify a date range you are interested in reviewing.
