Stuart Borrett Appointed NSF Rotating Program Director
For the 2024-25 academic year, Stuart Borrett, associate provost for Research and Innovation, will serve at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.
Meet the New Interim Associate Provost, Dr. Justine Reel
August 12, 2024 - Following an earlier internal call, Dr. Justine Reel was selected to serve as Interim Associate Provost for Research and Innovation for the 2024-2025 academic year. Dr. Reel brings over 19 years of administrative experience from a variety of institutions, including most recently her UNCW roles as the College of Health and Human Services’ (CHHS) Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, interim CHHS Dean, and interim Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance (SPARC) Director. As UNCW continues addressing problems that are regionally relevant and globally important, UNCW Research and Innovation remains critical to the university’s success and growth. Among the many duties assigned to the interim associate provost, Dr. Reel will lead the Research and Innovation Service Team in advancing research and innovation initiatives aligned with the university’s strategic plan; supporting the university’s growing sponsored program activity; implementing the new Research Hubs; reviewing and revising key university research policies; and fostering interdisciplinary research. UNCW Selected as One of Three FY25 UNC ROI Awardees
July 2, 2024 - The UNC System Research Opportunities Initiative is funded by the North Carolina General Assembly to support some of the most innovative and important research projects within the UNC System. Awards are designed to build capacity in "game-changing research" in strategic areas important to North Carolina. "Transect Expedition to Assess Land-To-Sea Habitats Via Interdisciplinary Process Studies (TEAL-SHIPS)," led by Dr. Bradley Tolar (Assistant Professor, Biology and Marine Biology), is one of three FY25 awardees. Partner institutions include East Carolina University, North Carolina State University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
