Additional Course Information

This course includes requirements to apply to sit for the exam and exposure to all major topics covered, but some independent study prior to the exam will be required to master the content.

Project Management has become critical in the success and competitiveness of public and private sector companies. Enterprises achieve their goals through projects and effective project management. In addition, the increasing complexity of work and demands for "more with less" place special demands on the project manager and need for a project-based approach.

This Project Management Certificate Course will focus on project leadership, communication, team building, conflict resolution, negotiation, cost & budget, measuring performance, and change management. Completing this program will also provide continuing education credits for select organizations and counts towards the Project Management Professional® certification exam requirements by the Project Management Institute.

This program provides the opportunity to learn the advanced aspects of project management by focusing on managing projects and your role as a project manager and leader. You will learn how to:

  • better prepare project schedules;
  • develop project measures and advanced approaches to project control; and
  • how to develop, lead and motivate project teams, and manage project risks, budgets and financial constraints.

Completion of this program will result in achieving a UNCW Certificate in Project Management, helping you be more effective in your current management position and prepare you for career advancement and new business opportunities.

This program is designed for participants who have responsibility for managing projects in their organizations. They are interested in improving their efficiency in project management. Some participants take the course to also prepare for the Project Management Institute exam.

Currently having the PMP (Project Management Professional) is the fastest career accelerator in the marketplace! Google 'PMP' or look at most job listings and you will see ''PMP required or desired.' One of the requirements to sit for the PMP exam is to have a 35-hour course in project management.

The certificate we offer covers that requirement and as a standalone shows any future employer that you have an in-depth knowledge in the area. Over the last nine years, only one person who took this course and then sat for the PMP failed the exam, so the success rate is at about 99%. This is not about business, but how to structure your work effort to be more efficient in reaching your end goals.
