Donald Russel Crawford

Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Crawford has resided in Southeastern North Carolina for several decades and proudly considers Wilmington home. With nearly 20 years of nursing experience, this faculty member has gained extensive clinical expertise across multiple healthcare settings. He is currently serving as a part-time Family Nurse Practitioner in a 501(c)3 nonprofit primary care clinic. This role involves providing essential healthcare services to Brunswick County residents who lack access to quality care due to extenuating socioeconomic circumstances. Additionally, he holds a full-time position as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington within the School of Nursing teaching pre-licensure, RN to BSN, and graduate-level DNP students.

Research Interests

While Dr. Crawford is relatively new to academia in terms of research scholarship and faculty roles, scholarly interests include studying pathological processes and the transmission of communicable diseases. His doctoral quality improvement project specifically addressed clinical inertia in managing hypertension, exploring its underlying causes and strategies for effective intervention. Additional scholarly interests encompass antibiotic stewardship, responsible opioid analgesic prescribing practices, and addressing workplace violence and incivility in nursing settings. Dr. Crawford maintains a strong interest in disseminating findings related to social determinants of health within the local community, with eagerness to explore new avenues of scholarly inquiry while welcoming opportunities for future collaboration.
