Samuel F Coggeshall

Visiting Assistant Professor

Dr. Coggeshall is Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian and Soviet History in the Department of History. He is a historian of imperial Russia and the Soviet Union. His research examines the intellectual, diplomatic, political, and cultural history of the early Soviet state, and situates the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union in international and inter-imperial context. Before coming to UNCW, he taught as Lecturer in Modern European History at Columbia University. He is working on a book project focusing on the role of local Soviet and British imperial officials in the making of new national territories during the Russian Civil War.
