Megan S Bolden

Lecturer

Megan Bolden has been a faculty member in the School of Social Work since the fall of 2021, taking on key leadership roles such as Assistant BSW Coordinator, Interim HS2SW Coordinator, and Assistant Field Education Coordinator. Through these positions, Bolden has shown a strong commitment to advancing the school’s mission and supporting the growth of social work students.

Bolden teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate-level courses, including Issues in Diversity for Generalist Practice, Social Diversity and Social Work Practice, Social Welfare Policy, Field Practicum, Field Seminar, and Research Methods. She is passionate about fostering a dynamic learning environment where students critically explore strategies for social change. Bolden focuses on helping students integrate research into practice, providing them with evidence-based tools to address complex social issues. Her teaching emphasizes both practical skills and a deep understanding of the theoretical frameworks that inform culturally competent social work.

Before joining the School of Social Work, Bolden earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She recently completed her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Higher Education Leadership from the same institution in 2024.

Research Interests

Bolden’s research interests focus on improving the transfer process for community college students transitioning to four-year institutions. She is dedicated to conducting program evaluations that enhance and refine existing educational initiatives. In addition, her work aims to foster interdisciplinary collaborations centered on health equity, particularly in marginalized communities, with the ultimate goal of promoting better health outcomes and increasing life expectancy.
