December Panopto Update: Everything You Need to Know

We’re excited to share the latest progress on UNCW’s transition to Panopto, our new campus-wide video and instructional media platform. Our team is working closely with the vendor to move existing Echo360 content into Panopto, and the migration is now well underway.

Migration Status

• Existing Echo360 content is currently being migrated to Panopto, with a planned completion in the early spring semester.
• We will send an email to the campus once the migration is complete. The migration includes videos, metadata, captions, multi-camera feeds, timestamps and search indexes.

Canvas & Panopto Updates

• Panopto is working to update your Canvas courses to include the Panopto version of any previously embedded Echo360 videos and links.
• Good News! Previously, we mentioned that Echo360 content would stay in Canvas until you removed it. Now, as part of the migration, all Echo360 content in Canvas will automatically be replaced with Panopto content. Everything will be ready for you, with no action needed on your part.
• Our team will be double-checking migrated content for accuracy.
  Note: While not required, you are encouraged to confirm that your specific materials were transferred as expected by using our Migration Checklist.

Website Updates

• Any Echo360 content on web pages will require manual updates.
• The web team is running a report to identify affected pages and will reach out to content managers with the next steps.
  Note: This report does not include People sites, Giving, Alumni, UNCW Sports, or Library pages. If you manage one of these sites, we encourage you to review your content to make sure any Echo360 content is replaced with Panopto.

Your Action Items

• Activate your Panopto account.
• Use Panopto for all new instructional videos, course media and lecture capture.
• Access Echo360 only for legacy content management; do not create new material there. As a safeguard, you can still access your prior recordings in your Echo360 account until the official sunset date of July 31, 2026.
