UNCW to Remain in Condition 1 Through Sunday, Sept. 21

Out of a continued abundance of caution, UNCW will remain in Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) of UNCW Policy 08.221 with all on-campus events cancelled through September 21. There continues to be no credible threat to campus. The University Police Department continues to work with local, state and federal partners to conduct a full investigation into the events that led to yesterday’s shelter-in-place, and all other received intimidating posts, tips and reports. 

Currently, classes are scheduled to proceed on Monday, but we are evaluating modality and other options. We will communicate updates via email by 6 p.m. Saturday, September 20 unless conditions warrant earlier messaging. 

Here’s what Seahawk members can do: 

• Monitor your UNCW email and UNCW Alerts for official updates. Please do not rely on social media channels as your source for emergency alerts and updates. 

• If you see or hear any threat to your safety, others’ safety or campus safety (or other concerning email, phone or social media messages), don’t hesitate — immediately forward to the University Police Department (call 911 or 910.962.2222, or forward to police@uncw.edu). 

• False information continues to circulate on social media. However, if the content implies a threat, please share with UPD. Please try to verify the credibility of your source and their information first before you consider sharing with your colleagues, friends or your professional and personal networks. 

As we head into the weekend, all employees should continue to observe Condition 1 through September 21. Please connect with your supervisor if you have questions about how this impacts any weekend work schedule you may have.
