UNCW Alert News

This week’s winter weather continues to affect the Wilmington region, and road conditions in the region remain challenging in many areas. The university plans to remain in Condition 2 for employees through 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24. Classes and campus events are cancelled through Friday. Campus dining options will be open Thursday and Friday.

The university’s next weather update will be sent by 12 p.m. on Friday unless conditions warrant earlier notification.

University Employees

UNCW will remain in Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) under the Adverse Weather Policy through Friday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m. During this time, the university will remain open on a limited basis but has suspended all but mandatory operations due to minimal staffing levels. Employees designated or temporarily assigned as mandatory must report to work or remain at work as directed; all other employees may not report to work or must leave the workplace when this status takes effect. Employees may also work remotely with supervisory approval. Employees must use leave for any work time missed in accordance with leave keeping policies.

Residential Students

The university community has enjoyed seeing your photos and videos from your snow day fun. Alumni have reached out via social media to share memories of their own snow days from years past. As a reminder, as you are out and about, please keep your safety and the safety of others in mind.

When heading outdoors, wear warm layers and use caution. Remember to be careful when traversing sidewalks and walking up or down steps or stairwells as they may be slippery in winter weather conditions. Remember: please avoid driving unless necessary. Be careful behind the wheel. UNCW Police have had to advise drivers to avoid reckless behavior.

Student Recreation Center and UNCW Library

The university will open the Student Recreation Center and the Randall Hall building at UNCW Library from 12-4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Operations in both locations may be reduced due to limited staffing. Please check both locations’ websites and social media sites for details.

Campus Dining

Campus Dining will have multiple locations open today (similar to Wednesday).

  • The Shore Dining Hall opened at 8 a.m.
  • Wagoner Dining Hall opened at 9 a.m.
  • Select retail locations across campus will be open, depending on staffing availability.
