UNCW is closely monitoring and carefully preparing for tropical weather conditions expected to affect southeastern North Carolina starting early Thursday evening (Sept. 26) and lasting into Saturday evening (Sept. 28), based on current information from the National Hurricane Center. At this time, the university plans to maintain its normal operating schedule.
University emergency responders will continue working with New Hanover County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service Wilmington to assess the tropical weather system’s track and to provide the UNCW community with relevant information.
UNCW Family Weekend, Other Activities
Please note that many UNCW Family Weekend events slated for Sept. 27-29 are scheduled to proceed as planned. Event schedules may be adjusted based on the weather. Any changes will be updated on the Family Weekend website, communicated via email by sponsoring offices and shared during check-in at the Warwick Center on Friday and Saturday.
Weather conditions may impact other campus events and activities. Before heading out, please check the campus venue websites for the latest updates.
Weather Safety Procedures
Now is a good time to review campus emergency procedures and personal preparation plans. Visit Environmental Health and Safety’s Emergency Management site for access to severe weather guidance and other safety tips.
Monitor UNCW Inboxes and Channels
The university will send a campus-related update by Thursday afternoon (Sept. 26) unless conditions warrant earlier messaging. Please continue to monitor UNCW inboxes, the UNCW homepage, UNCW Alert page and social media feeds (Facebook and X). In the event of university-level closings or cancellations, UNCW Alert text messages and the Emergency Information Hotline (1.888.657.5751) will be activated.
