The Seahawk Swap Shop celebrated its grand opening in November. Located in the Warwick Center, UNCW's first free store is a partnership between the Office of Sustainability and the Student Government Association.
Operating under the philosophy of “take what you need, donate what you don’t,” students, faculty and staff are free to take items (clothing, accessories, household decor, office supplies, kitchen items and small appliances) at no cost and donate items as well.
Free stores like the Seahawk Swap Shop create a circular economy focused on waste diversion, emission reduction and social equity. In addition to helping with personal finances, the shops keep usable items out of the landfill, reduce emissions by not demanding new materials and offer an environment where all are welcome regardless of what you have or don't have.
“We hope to create a space where one person’s unwanted item can be another’s treasured belonging,” said Cody Brandon ’24, Student Body President.
