UNCW Chancellor Volety Joins NCBiotech Board of Directors

Chancellor Aswani K. Volety, an advocate for strong collaborations among higher education, government, industry and community leaders, has joined the North Carolina Biotechnology Center Board of Directors.

Volety, a well-respected administrator and a marine scientist with expertise in toxicology, immunology and biochemistry, brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and commitment to NCBiotech. He graduated from the College of William & Mary with a doctorate in marine science. Volety received a master of science in zoology with a specialization in marine biology and his bachelor of science from Andhra University in India. He also currently serves as President of the National Shellfisheries Association.

"I welcome the opportunity to join the esteemed group of experts who serve on the NCBiotech board. UNCW already collaborates with many of their organizations, and I look forward to expanding our partnerships in the future," Chancellor Volety said. "As North Carolina’s coastal university, UNCW actively contributes to our state’s success through regionally relevant and globally important education and research."

UNCW, founded in 1947, has long been known for the strength of its programs in biology, marine biology, chemistry, biochemistry, coastal engineering, data science and other related fields. The university’s Center for Marine Science, Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Office of Innovation and Commercialization empower students, faculty, staff and many external partners to translate discoveries and inventive ideas into viable business opportunities with the potential to enhance economic development in North Carolina.
