Non-Degree & Visiting Students
Non-Degree Seeking Students and VISTING students
Overview
Non-degree seeking students are those who have earned a bachelor's or are completing a bachelor’s degree elsewhere (visiting students) and are taking undergraduate courses at UNCW for transfer credit or graduate school preparation. Fill in the non-degree survey once admitted.
Orientation & Advising
Non-degree students are not required to attend orientation and will not be assigned an academic advisor. If admission status changes to degree-seeking, students must attend the next available orientation. For questions about prerequisites or registration, contact the Office of the Registrar.
Transcript Requirements
In addition to the transcripts required by Admissions, non-degree students must have final transcripts with official grades on file with either Admissions or the Registrar for prerequisite override processing.
Course Registration
To register for courses:
- Log into MySeaport.
- View your assigned registration time ticket (issued the day after the withdrawal passing deadline).
- If the courses you wish to take have prerequisites, contact the Office of the Registrar.
- Complete the non-degree survey, list the courses you plan to take, and upload your final unofficial transcript. The Registrar’s Office will notify you via your UNCW email if the course is approved.
- You may also contact the Registrar’s Office by phone for assistance.
Additional Information
Financial Aid: Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid, except in cases where courses are required for admission to a UNCW graduate program. In such cases, students may qualify for up to one year of aid. Contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for details.
Immunizations: All students, degree-seeking and non-degree seeking, must submit immunization records before registering for classes. Visit Student Health Services for requirements.
Withdrawing an Application: If you decide not to attend UNCW, submit the Withdraw Application form in your Application Portal.
Technical Help: For login or MySeaport issues, contact the Technology Assistance Center (TAC) at 910.962.4357.
Unclassified Students
Overview
Unclassified students do not meet standard admission requirements but may take courses to demonstrate readiness for degree enrollment. They may register for up to 18 credit hours per semester, with a maximum of 30 total hours. After 30 attempted hours, students must qualify for degree status to continue.
Registration & Advising
Unclassified students are subject to all university academic regulations but are not eligible for federal financial aid. They are not required to attend orientation and are not assigned an advisor. Course selections are determined by the Office of Admissions. For questions about prerequisites or registration, contact the Office of the Registrar at 910.962.3125 or by email.
Tuition & Fees
Unclassified students pay standard tuition and fees. Contact Student Accounts for details.
Dual Enrollment
Overview
Qualified high school juniors and seniors may enroll at UNCW while still in high school. Students may take up to two undergraduate courses per term.
Entry Terms
Dual-enrolled students may begin in the fall, spring, or summer term.
Registration
Once accepted and after paying the enrollment deposit, students can register for classes through MySeaport under the Registration tab. Registration times will appear in MySeaport within 1–2 days of paying the deposit.
Orientation & Advising
Dual-enrolled students are not required to attend orientation and will not be assigned to an academic advisor. Course selections are determined by the student’s high school counseling staff.
Academic Record
Courses completed at UNCW count toward degree requirements, are included in the UNCW GPA, and will be factored into Latin honors at graduation for undergraduate students.
