Focused on growth and grounded in care, the Belonging and Connections Committee (BCC) strengthens staff capacity to engage students with empathy and impact – building a more connected, informed, and supportive community through learning, listening, and meaningful exchange.

Overview

The BCC supports the professional development of Student Affairs staff by offering voluntary learning opportunities focused on student success, accessibility, and effective engagement practices. Through their initiatives, the committee promotes thoughtful dialogue and shared learning around the evolving needs of UNCW’s student population. These efforts aim to enhance staff capacity to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, aligned with the university’s mission and values. The committee’s work contributes to a collaborative and informed divisional culture that prioritizes continuous improvement and student-centered practices.

Core Initiatives
  • Coffee Chats - Informal gatherings where Student Affairs staff connect, share experiences, and build relationships over coffee. 
  • Student Voices Panel - Hear directly from students about their experiences, needs, and perspectives to better guide our work. 
  • Staff Learning Exchanges - Interactive sessions where colleagues share insights, strategies, and resources to support student success and share knowledge about best practices.
