Nine awards are available: Three for meritorious academic performance, one to support student travel to present at a scientific conference, three for students who have excelled in research, and two for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to our department. Recipients of the awards are recognized at department graduation ceremonies as well as on the Awards webpage.
The Department of Psychology offers three merit awards to celebrate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance. To apply for a merit award, please use UNCW's University Scholarship Application which can be found in your My Seaport account. These are monetary awards and any awarded funds will be transferred directly to your UNCW account.
Note that you will be required to include a Psychology faculty letter of support as part of your application for any of these merit awards. Award recipients will be selected by the Department of Psychology’s Undergraduate Steering Committee.
Charles Allo was a UNCW Psychology major in the 1970s who lived in Carolina Beach. He subsequently became a very generous donor to our department and this award is just one example of his generosity.
The recipient of this award will be selected on demonstrated academic ability and special achievement; financial need can be a secondary consideration. The recipient must be a Psychology Major, with at least Junior standing, and a full-time student, and they must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Katie Phillips was a Psychology senior who died in 2016. Her family created this merit award in her honor, and it is meaningful to our department because it commemorates Katie's big personality, sharp intellect, and kind spirit.
The recipient of this scholarship will be selected on demonstrated academic ability and special achievement. The recipient must be a UNCW senior pursuing a degree in the Department of Psychology. Learn more about Katie in this memorial created by her capstone class.
This scholarship was created by the Department of Psychology faculty and staff in honor of its founding chairs, Dr. John Taylor Williams and Dr. Lee Anderson Jackson. This is an undergraduate merit scholarship, and the recipient will be selected on demonstrated academic ability. The recipient must have been accepted into the College of Science & Engineering and have indicated a commitment to majoring in psychology.
The Novak family are long-time supporters of UNCW and are members of the UNCW Parents Council. Their daughter, Nikki, was a former Honors student in our department.
This is a merit scholarship, and the recipient will be an undergraduate or graduate Psychology student with demonstrated academic ability and special achievements. Strong preference should be given to students who are also in the Honors College.
