This is a $500 merit scholarship. Recipients are selected on academic ability, special achievement and a demonstrated passion for music education. Preference will be given to those students who intend to teach music at the elementary level.
The amount of the award, approximately $1,500, will be determined by the scholarship committee and dependent on the current status of the Adcock Fund. This award is given to a student who plans to graduate from the music program at UNCW and who does not have more than 36 hours to complete before graduation.

This award was created by Mrs. Polly Beaver in memory of her husband, Christopher Kent Beaver, who was a gifted and outstanding singer, choral director and church musician. His love for music translated into a love for his musical colleagues and for those who came to hear that music. He will be remembered not only for adding to the richness of the sound of the choir but also adding to the richness of the experience for fellow choir members, both musically and personally.
The award, approximately $1,000, may be offered to any full-time UNCW student in good standing, regardless of academic major, who is registered for the UNCW Concert Choir or UNCW Chamber Singers.
This scholarship was created by the Department of Music in honor of Joe Hickman’s retirement. Dr. Joe Hickman was professor of music and director of choral activities at the University of North Carolina Wilmington from 1979-2019, where he conducted Concert Choir and Chamber Choir, and conducted many performances on campus, in the community, and regionally. He led university choral ensembles on 13 tours in England and Europe, giving dozens of performances in major cities and smaller towns.
In addition, Hickman was music director for Opera Wilmington and conducted Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, Carmen, Die Fledermaus, and Amahl and the Night Visitors. Guest conductor appearances took him throughout the eastern United States. His research includes editing and arranging music, and, in recent years, he has done orchestral reductions for oratorio and opera projects. Hickman’s Haydn Creation and Verdi Rigoletto reductions have been published by two major European publishers. Hickman earned his Bachelor of Music at West Virginia University and his Master and Doctor of Music at Indiana University.
These annual awards were established by the Cape Fear Jazz Society in support of students who are interested in majoring in music within the jazz program. The scholarships are based primarily on study of jazz instrumental performance and/or composition.
Academic merit is the secondary consideration and is defined as 3.0 GPA, first consideration, with 2.5 GPA as a second consideration. The student should be pursuing a degree in music and actively involved within the jazz program, including the jazz ensembles. Scholarships are available to incoming freshman and continuing students. The award is renewable based on the committee’s recommendation. If no appropriate applicant is available the amount may be held until an appropriate recipient may apply.
This award was created by Mary Ann and Spencer Everett, and was established to assist students majoring in music within the College of Arts and Sciences. The scholarship, approximately $1,750, is considered a merit scholarship and the recipient will be selected based on demonstrated talent and academic ability. The recipient must have been accepted into the Department of Music and be a student performer of classical music; preference will be given to vocalists. This scholarship is in honor of Nancy King, UNCW vocal coordinator and professor.
This award was created by Meira Warshauer in honor and memory of Mary Eunice Troy, a Wilmington resident and a nationally recognized piano teacher/ clinician who was dedicated to her profession and to her students, many of whom continue to enjoy impressive careers in music. The scholarship will be used to assist students pursuing a degree offered by the Department of Music, pursuing a degree in performance with a concentration in Piano. The scholarship consists of two one-time awards of $1,250.

The award amount may be greater than $1,000, if funds are available. Primary consideration for this award will be given to students maintaining a GPA of 3.0 while enrolled at UNCW. Secondary consideration will be given to financial need, as determined by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

This is a $500 award to promote a passion for music throughout a lifetime through music education. Its purpose is to assist students interested in pursuing a degree offered by the Department of Music.
Considered a merit scholarship, the recipient of this award will be selected on demonstrated academic ability and special achievement, as well as the “most improved” by the Department Chair and the appointed scholarship committee.
In addition, the recipient must have been accepted for admission to UNCW and pursuing a degree offered by the Department of Music and be studying classical guitar. The award may be given to undergraduate students and is renewable if the committee still believes they are “most improved” and deserving of the award for another year.
