Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine. It's the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923 to encourage and recognize high scholastic achievement among members of the freshman classes.

First-year students with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale at the close of any full-time curricular period during their first year, and rank in the upper 20% of their class.
