Second Story Journal

Second Story Journal is the creative magazine sponsored by the UNCW Honors College. 


Published by the Honors Student Media Board, Second Story Journal prints a variety of visual and written work in an annual issue. Since 2011, Second Story Journal has published issues that reflect the creative abilities and diverse mindsets of UNCW’s Honors College students and, as of 2022, the undergraduate whole of UNCW.

Submissions

Second Story Journal accepts original creative work from all undergraduate students across UNCW. We have a recurring submission period from December 10 to February 10, with an extended deadline of February 13 for Honors students. We will be fielding submissions for Issue XV through these dates during the 2023-2024 school year.

 

Requirements

All submissions should be sent to our email, secondstoryjournal@gmail.com, as an attachment. The body of your email should include your affiliation with the Honors College, if any; a short author bio; and the name(s) of your piece(s), listed. Please remove identifying information from your document(s) and include no more than 5 pieces across all categories.

 

  • Short Prose – No longer than 2,000 words each, titled, and in a .doc or .docx format.
  • Poetry – No longer than 2 pages each, titled, and in a .doc or .docx format
  • Scholarly Essays – No longer than 2,000 words each, titled, and in a .doc or .docx format with sources cited in MLA format.
  • Feature Journalism – No longer than 2,000 words each, titled, and in a .doc or .docx format.
  • Digital Art – High-resolution, titled, and in .jpeg format.
  • Visual Art – High-resolution images of two- or three-dimensional works, titled, and in .jpeg format.
  • Photography – High-resolution, titled, and in .jpeg format.
