1) Intensive English Language Programs

  • 5-week, 8-week, and 16-week sessions
  • Sessions begin in January, March, August, and October
  • 20+ hours of face-to-face instruction per week
  • Classes meet Monday - Friday
    • Mon/Wed: 9:00-2:50 (5 classes)
    • Tues/Thurs: 9:30-4:25 (4 classes & instructor office hours)
    • Fri: 9:00-1:50 (4 classes & field trip/activity)
  • Proficiency levels: 1) High- Beginner, 2) Intermediate, 3) High-Intermediate, 4) Advanced
  • Core curriculum: Writing & Grammar, Speaking & Listening, Project Development (Applied Language Skills), Reading, Conversation & Pronunciation
  • Commonly offered elective courses: Test Preparation, Pronunciation, Popular English
  • Students with F-1 visas must attend a full-time program

2) Part Time English Courses

  • Available for students who do not need an F-1 student visa
  • Students may enroll in a maximum of 15 hours/week
  • Each course costs $1,400 for the full semester, or $750 for the 8-week program
    • Cost includes: textbook, weekly excursions/activities, conversation partner
    • Does not include: rec center access, meals, housing, transportation
  • Students who enroll in more than one course will receive a $100 discount per additional course

3) Tutoring: In Person, Online, or Combination*

The UNCW English Language Center offers two levels of tutoring: Basic and Advanced. 

Basic Tutoring: General speaking/listening/conversation practice. Meet 1-on-1 with a tutor and talk!

Advanced Tutoring: Higher-level, focused tutoring on specific subjects such as: TOEFL/IELTS preparation, public speaking, academic reading and writing
