Faculty Phased Retirement

The UNCW Faculty Phased Retirement Program (PRP) is designed to provide an opportunity for eligible full-time faculty members to make an orderly transition to retirement through half-time service, as reflected in the PRP policy.

Phased Retirement Open Enrollment

September 1, 2021 - November 24, 2021

The open enrollment period for tenured faculty who wish to enter the Phased Retirement Program (the "Program") beginning in the 2022-2025 academic year is September 1, 2021 through November 24, 2021.  Participants must attend a meeting in Human Resources and review enrollment materials by November 24, 2021.

The Program is available only to full-time tenured faculty members if, by August 1, 2022, they:

  1. Have at least five years of full-time service at UNCW;
  2. Are age 62 or older for members of the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS) or 59 ½ or older for participants in the Optional Retirement Program;   and
  3. Are eligible to receive retirement benefits through either TSERS or ORP, as applicable.
