General Accounting

The General Accounting department is a unit of the Controller’s Office charged with preserving the integrity of the university’s general ledger and cash management functions.

General Accounting is responsible for the reconciliation of university bank accounts, subsidiary ledgers, and balance sheet accounts; review, verification and processing of journal entries, IDIs, cash requisitions, transfers and wires; month-end and year-end closing processes; and reporting and analyzing financial information provided to management.

The General Accounting department is committed to providing quality, efficient, and timely customer service to the university community in compliance with university, federal and state regulations, policies and procedures.

Important News/Updates!

We wanted to reassure campus that General Accounting Staff will be working remotely to process your JEs and IDIs during the campus closure. To facilitate the routing of JEs and IDIs during this time, General Accounting has established a shared mailbox named GeneralAccounting@uncw.edu. This mailbox will be used to facilitate ‘business as usual’ for our campus.

Continuing Process for Journal Entries and IDIs:

The electronic submission process we started in April has allowed us to serve campus more efficiently and from a variety of work locations. We will be continuing this process until further notice, as we work toward a more permanent electronic solution. Please use the link below to view the procedure document for your reference.
