If you have not yet submitted a completed direct deposit form, you will receive a paper check. 

Payroll checks are sent to the Cashier's office for pickup on payday, you must have a picture ID. Always confirm hours of operation and closing dates, this can be found on the cashier's website. If the office is closed due to holidays or COVID, checks will be mailed to your primary address.


It is very important to keep your primary mailing address current. UNCW uses the primary address to mail benefit enrollment information and W2s. If you need to update your address please email 


Multi-State Taxation

If you are a UNCW employee and work in a state other than the state of North Carolina, you may have a tax liability to the state in which you work. Income tax withholding defaults to North Carolina. Thus if you are working from another state, you need to reach out to the Tax Accountant at

W-4 and NC-4 Via SeaNet

Do not complete a W-4 or a NC-4 if you are a Nonresident or Resident Alien. Please reach out to the Tax Accountant at



If you did not consent to receive your W2 electronically, paper W2’s will be mailed to your permanent address with a postmark date no later than January 31, 2022

The US Postal Service could take up to 3 weeks or more to deliver your W2. Please allow for this time before contacting the payroll office at for a re-printed copy **


The mission of the Payroll Department is to process salary and wage payments to all staff, faculty and student employees timely and accurately; process and remit deductions for federal and state taxes, retirement and other withholdings; and process and remit University payments for employee benefits. We also maintain records and reports required by the University, federal and state governmental agencies pertaining to personnel paid through the Payroll system.
