Weekend/Semester Instructor Description

As an Engineering Expectations Weekend Instructor you will help guide our students into a world full of engineering challenges. Instructors will need to be familiar with general engineering principles, including science, technology, and math. Instructors will be responsible for leading project based activities by guiding students through the engineering design process.

Duties:

  • Provide instruction for students ages 6-14
  • Supervise students in the classroom and during snack
  • General set up, clean up, and maintenance of classroom
  • Behavior management of students
  • Provide first aid to students
  • Ensure Youth Programs policies, safety expectations, and staffing ratios are carried out at all times

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to lead or assist in challenging and new learning experiences
  • Must have strong oral communication skills to communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff
  • Must have some previous experience and desire to work with children
  • Must have some previous knowledge about STEM, engineering is a plus
  • Preference for instructor candidates is to either be college students majoring in engineering or a STEM education field, licensed NC teachers in a classroom teaching science, math, or technology, or a high school student with experience in science Olympiad, robotics, etc.

Terms of Employment:

  • One Saturday a month from September through May, with a potential for additional hours during the week
  • Saturday hours are from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm; Weekly hours vary
  • Pay rate starts at $8.00/hr, dependent on qualifications up to $15.00/hr
  • Employment is subject to a criminal and Homeland Security background check.
