4-week Field Experience in Belize Schools:

Rising juniors, seniors, spring graduates, and graduate students, enrolled in the Watson College of Education Teacher Education Program, may participate in a 4-week field experience. Students work in a model classroom demonstrating good practice and work in PreK-12 schools in San Pedro Town, Belize to learn and share ideas with classroom teachers.

May 11-June 8, 2019
This trip leaves the day after spring graduation and will not interfere with any required internship or other course for initial licensure. Application deadline is December 1, 2018. Any applications received after the deadline will only be considered if program availability exists.

2-week Summer Camp Experience with Community Library:

Open to all students enrolled in the Watson College of Education and other UNCW students with permission of the trip leaders, students spend two weeks in San Pedro Town, Belize offering Camp Manatee, an academic camps through the community library. Sessions run Monday-Thursday, morning and afternoon. Fridays are excursion days to learn and enjoy beautiful Belize!

The application deadline is Wednesday, February 1, 2019. Any applications received after the deadline will only be considered if program availability exists.


1-week Professional Development Experience for Graduate Students:

Graduate students in teacher education and school administration programs in Watson College of Education, or a related college on campus, offer professional development experiences for teachers and principals in Belize. Sessions run Monday-Thursday, with Friday and weekends open to explore Belize. (Minimum of 10 days in the country required.)

The application deadline is February 1, 2019. Any applications received after the deadline will only be considered if program availability exists.

  • Graduate-EDL 664 International Internship (2 credits) or EDN-592 International Field Experience (2 credits) Students enroll in the SUMMER II session. Weekly seminars required during Summer I.
