Study Abroad: Belize

Jack Hall (Environmental Sciences), Troy Alphin (BMB and CMS) and Martin Posey (BMB and CMS) had another very successful study abroad experience in Belize, 2-10 January 2019. They led a class of 23 students from both EVS and BMB for a 9 day research class centered out of the Calabash Caye Field station, operated by the University of Belize, on Turneffe Atoll. This is the 8th year they have led this study abroad class and the students were able to study relatively pristine mangrove, seagrass and coral reef systems, including formal lectures and class sampling (following international, Mesoamerican protocols) as well as conducting independent research projects. These trips are also allowing UNCW to develop long-term relationships with Belizean resource managers and faculty at the University of Belize.
