Ph.D. in Marine Biology
The major emphasis of the Ph.D. in marine biology program is to provide doctoral training in the areas that encompass modern marine biology, focusing on areas of particular faculty strength: coastal and estuarine biology, crustacean biology, marine mammalogy, and molecular biology and systematics of marine organisms. The Ph.D. program in marine biology is the culmination of a thirty-year investment by UNCW in marine biology as the premier academic program on the campus. UNCW is well positioned to provide doctoral training in marine biology: the university has immediate access to the marine environment, the Department of Biology and Marine Biology has an undergraduate program in marine biology ranked 5th in the nation, and the department has extensive experience in marine biology graduate education.
