UNCW Economic Outlook Conference

The annual UNCW Economic Outlook Conference (EOC) is Southeast North Carolina's premier forum for economic activity and forecasts. The conference highlights key trends, challenges, and opportunities that have and will impact our region economically. This economic data is complemented by panel discussions and a keynote speaker representing relevant local business sectors and leaders in our state.

  • An executive panel will discuss the current status of Residential and Commercial Real Estate markets, as well as Retail and Commerce in our region.
  • Dr. Woody Hall and Dr. Tom Simpson offer outlooks on the regional and national economies.
  • Mr. Lew Ebert, CEO of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, provides the keynote address.

Cost is $35/person or $240 for a table of eight.

Rocket Pitch Event

Five local entrepreneurs will be presenting their companies business models and growth strategies in 5-minute pitches at this innovative and inspiring event. The startup companies feature technology, consumer products, electric boat building, creative design, and the film industry.
Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback to the entrepreneurs and ask questions. The pitches will be followed by member networking and discussions over food and drinks.

An Insiders View on the State of Financial Markets

October 28, 5:30pm-7:30pm

Dr. Tom Simpson, retired senior official with the Federal Reserve speaks on the current state of the national and global economic conditions. Dr. Simpson is currently an Executive in Residence with the UNCW Department of Economics & Finance following his retirement from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, DC.

He received his A.B. in economics from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. Dr. Simpson has focused his professional career on monetary policy and financial markets-serving as a senior official at the Federal Reserve Board and to the Federal Open Market Committee. He has been a resident advisor to the Central Bank of Russia and is a principal advisor to the Central Bank of Iraq. He has published articles in various professional journals and is author of "Money, Banking, and Economic Analysis."
