Dr. Deborah Dowd Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Dr. Deborah Dowd Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences in honor of Dr. Deb Dowd, a true servant to UNCW. She initially served as the UNCW Softball Coach between 1979-1985 and then joined the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences in 1990. She passed away on October 16, 2020, after 30 years of service. Dr. Dowd was known for her warm and engaging presence, which enriched our campus for many years. Dr. Dowd loved being in the classroom with her students where she encouraged them to think critically and to apply exercise science principles and theories to real-world situations. She was especially passionate about advising students and served as an advisor in the University College in addition to the Exercise Science program. In her role as an advisor, mentor and teacher, over her 30-year career, she had a positive influence on the lives and careers of thousands of Seahawk graduates. This scholarship fund is being created to support an Exercise Science undergraduate student in the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences.
