Jaci Webb-Dempsey
Director of Program Assessment, Accreditation and Development

Jaci Webb-DempseyPrior to coming to UNCW, Webb-Dempsey served as interim associate dean for the College of Education, Health and Human Performance at Fairmont State University from 2013-2015, and as a faculty member from 2008. She began her career in higher education at West Virginia University in 1994, first as director of assessment for the Benedum Collaborative Professional Development Schools initiative and later as a faculty member in the College of Human Resources and Education. Prior to her transition to higher education, Webb-Dempsey was a research associate at Research for Better Schools, the federal education lab in Philadelphia serving the MidAtlantic states. She completed her doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Social and Cultural Foundations of Education. Webb-Dempsey is an alumna of UNCW, where she received the Master of Education in supervision and administration and spent a year as an instructor. She received her undergraduate degree in fine arts from Methodist University, where she also completed certification requirements in art dducation and subsequently served as an arts administrator and a high school art teacher in Fayetteville, N.C.

Webb-Dempsey currently develops and implements strategies to support program and college-level assessment, program and unit accreditation processes, and the development of new academic programs in UNCW’s three professional schools and contributes to campus-wide development of a culture of assessment. Much of her research has focused on the evaluation of innovative programs or methodologies for engaging in program evaluation and assessment, including a statewide studies of the impact of West Virginia’s network of school-university partnerships on the renewal of educator preparation, educator practice, and student learning; the Energy Express summer reading and nutrition program on literacy development of children in low-income West Virginia communities; West Virginia’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library program; and North Carolina’s early efforts to implement school site-based management and restructure the state public education system.     

Webb-Dempsey is also the director of program assessment, accreditation and development for the Cameron School of Business and the Watson College of Education at UNCW.
