LEADING THE WAY WITH TECHNOLOGY

Technology continues to drive the evolution of the 21st-century learning environment in schools, universities and corporations. Along with these growing opportunities to deliver educational content via virtual and blended learning environments, there is a greater need for professionals who understand instructional technology.

No matter whether your career is in a classroom or a corporate campus, the ability to communicate effectively in an online environment will position you as a leader in your field.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

The OTL minor provides access to the benefits of our nationally-ranked Master of Science in Instructional Technology program, alongside your primary undergraduate degree. As you progress through your OTL minor courses, you will learn how to develop online course materials, how technology can be used to teach both synchronous and asynchronous courses, and how to modify face-to-face materials for an online environment.

With courses based on the NCDPI Teaching and Learning Standards, you will study digital teaching and learning pedagogies, tools and resources for effective instruction, digital citizenship, and the effective use of data and assessment. With this knowledge, you will be better equipped throughout your professional career as an educator to:

  • Design, develop and implement technology-based learning experiences
  • Use instructional technologies to enhance learning and engage learners
  • Creatively deliver concepts and skills via best instructional technology principles and practices

How Do I Apply?

UNCW students in any field of study are eligible for the Online Teaching and Learning minor. To declare the minor:

  1. Consult with your advisor.
  2. Log onto MySeaport and click on the Academics tab at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the "Major Declaration/Curricular Updates" link, located under the Student Services menu on the left side of the screen.
  4. Read and follow instructions to declare a minor.
  5. Click "Add minor/ cluster" link. Make selections from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click "Submit Changes" button.
