Elementary Mathematics Program Overview

INCREASE YOUR IMPACT IN THE CLASSROOM

The Elementary Mathematics program is an online graduate-level program of study (six courses) focused on the knowledge needed to successfully teach mathematics at the elementary level. Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn both a graduate-level certificate and complete the requirements for the Elementary Mathematics Add-on Licensure to your current license.

Each course is distinguished by a focus on a high-leverage teaching practice, a primary area of mathematics necessary for successfully teaching elementary school mathematics and a secondary area of mathematical content.

The primary content area provides the context for exemplifying the high-leverage teaching practice. The secondary content area demonstrates the transfer of the high-leverage teaching practice to other content strands.

  3. Bachelor's Degree:  A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized institutional accreditor.
  4. GPA: A cumulative GPA of at least a 2.75 (based on the 4.0 scale).

  6. Teaching License: A North Carolina teaching license in Elementary Education (Grades K-6) OR Middle Grades Edcuations (Grades 6-8) and certified in Middle Grades Mathematics. 
  7. Financial Aid: Non-federal loans are available for this program.  Admitted students may apply through the UNCW Scholarship Application to be considered for additional scholarships.  Please consult your Financial Aid Counselor for further details.
  8. Visa Sponsorship:  This program does not qualify for visa sponsorship.
